Richard Shilling's Lovely Land Art
Fri, 6 Jan 2012 11:32:54 +1100
Katherine Phelps <muse [at] glasswings.com.au>
Using only natural materials gathered near where his sculptures are made,
artist Richard Shilling creates some of the loveliest land art we've ever
seen. Due to the uncontrollable weather, Shilling sometimes only has a few
minutes to capture his creations before they're swept away by the wind. It's
within this short period of time that he attempts to bring to life "the most

This TED 20 min lecture is awesome. I love every word this guy uttered.
I did not enjoy most of my education days, so it is sooo nice to hear that
not everyone needs to be an academic and that being one is in no way always
synonymous with intelligence.

Awesome Predictions

Katherine Phelps <muse [at] glasswings.com.au>
These days it seems tricky to make predictions more than a few years into the
future, other than that we are legally guaranteed to have hoverboards in three
years’ time. Try to guess a century in advance and you’re on to a tough task.
But one writer in 1900 certainly gave it a shot. In a lengthy article in The
Ladies’ Home Journal , writer John Elfreth Watkins Jr put together a series of

Time Cloak Hides Very Brief Events
Mon, 16 Jan 2012 08:33:47 +1100
Katherine Phelps <muse [at] glasswings.com.au>
For years physicists have been refining invisibility cloaks—physical setups
that cleverly reroute light around a region in space, effectively concealing
any object that might be inside. But now researchers at Cornell University
have built the first temporal cloak, a device that obscures an object or event
not at a particular point in space but at a specific moment in time.

Many of these do very little for me...but SOME. I can't wait to see
Frankenweenie and The Hobbit. I MUST see Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
The one that concerns me is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Since vampires
sparkle in this world, is "breaking dawn" a euphemism for vampire farts?

The are fascinating depictions of astronomical events done in the 1800s. They
are by no means accurate. However, they are beautiful art nouveau works that
say something about our understanding of space at the time.
