"This year brings another wake-up call on climate change. After the hottest
year in history, global temperatures exceeded 1.5°C of warming for 12 months in
a row to June. Add this to the myriad of extreme temperature, drought, fire,
and precipitation events, and it’s no wonder many observers are increasingly
concerned that global warming is accelerating.
Unfortunately, they’re right. The underlying mechanics of warming tell us that
not only is the Earth getting hotter, but the temperature rises are likely
accelerating. Climate change is a classic flow and stock problem. The flow of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere increases the stock of greenhouse gases,
and higher stock levels increase global warming – year-on-year."
