"A severe weather warning has been issued for Victoria’s east after 24 hours of
heavy rain and strong winds, which sparked hundreds of calls for help and
caused a landslide that cut off a Gippsland town.
More heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to batter Gippsland and the
alpine region, including the towns of Mallacoota, Maffra and Omeo, with heavy
rain forecast to persist into early Friday in the far east of the state.
SES chief operations officer Tim Wiebusch said a landslide had blocked the
Mallacoota-Genoa Road, isolating Mallacoota from about 8.30am on Thursday. A
VicEmergency alert said the landslip was the size of a house."
