'When 43-year-old Matthew Dillon got COVID-19 at the end of 2022, he didn't
think much of it.

He was double vaccinated and described his symptoms for the most part as mild.

Six weeks later, he began to feel pins and needles in his feet and within
months was unable to walk.

He spent the next couple of months between doctors and hospitals that struggled
to diagnose the cause of his mystery illness, as test after test came back
clear.

The avid fisherman and diesel mechanic from Mackay thought he was going to die.

"I was struggling to breathe, I couldn't cough … my entire core muscles had
failed," he said.

"I couldn't support myself sitting up, my legs were completely paralysed.

"I don't think I've ever been so lost in my entire life … you feel like you're
crawling through hell."'
