"The rate of voter participation in federal elections by people living in
remote Indigenous communities has been lower than the national average since
First Nations people were granted the right to vote in 1962. In recent years,
the rate has been in decline. Rates are lowest in the Northern Territory.

The low rate of participation among First Nations people living in remote
communities could affect the lower house election results in the Northern
Territory seat of Lingiari. Warren Snowden has stepped down after 20 years
holding the seat."
