If the government listened to business leaders, they would encourage humanities education, not pull funds from it

"The federal government’s announcement they will more than double the
cost of humanities and communications degrees for university students
has taken the sector by surprise – not least because it goes against
increasing evidence that these programs are the key to our nation’s
future success."

Via Muse, who wrote "in the 1980s I was hired by the University of
Washington to mentor students from the science and technology
departments. This was because they often lacked skills in how to
organise and communicate their thoughts clearly in written form. So the
English department was recruited to provide “W” courses…classes which
had a writing component specifically to improve essay writing skills.
And a bunch of us were hired to help the STEM students."
