"When you get down to it, science fiction is a name, and a name is a
handle, and a handle is a thing you put on something so you can get a
hold of it more easily. Calling a story science fiction helps us come to
grips with it.
Naming a thing doesn’t let us control it; that’s pure fantasy. But
categorizing it does help us understand it. Linguistics may be a
science, but the use of language is an art."
