"Learning the language of these Amazonian river wolves meant studying
five families of wild otters in Peru and three captive otter families
kept in German zoos. Scientists recorded the otters’ different
vocalizations (see some of the videos here) and the contexts in which
those sounds emerged. Then they compared the ways in which the wild and
captive otters communicated with one another."
