Hear hear. As he says, this is a failed policy, and we need to find a
way to stop politicians magnifying and pandering to fears so they can
continue to play the easy "tough on crime" card. Worse still are
politicians who genuinely believe in punishment over rehabilitation and
have no interest in wider public policy issues like the economic and
social costs.

Australia: a disproportionate number of aboriginal people in jails,
fines and arrests having more to do with keeping students and
underclasses intimidated than keeping anyone safe. Think about what you
can do to stop this."
