Heavy metal has changed through the years. It started out as blues rock. The
stuff I remember from when heavy metal first came into existence probably
would be considered hard rock by the youngsters of today. AC/DC are
considered both hard rock and amongst the founders of heavy metal. I used to
be fond of Blue Oyster Cult and Jethro Tull. Queen was considered heavy metal
in its day.

Depends upon how fussy you want to get with your definitions.
